There are also valid biblical practices of the New Testament church that can lead some to self-righteousness as well, and yet this does not make this practice itself illegitimate. Having attended two Christian schools where there was a great deal of legalism, I noticed that abstention from wine, dancing, going to movies, and playing with dice in a Monopoly game also led to self-righteousness and the obscuring of what it means to be free in the Messiah.
